Having the right products is only the first step. The next step is to develop a skin care regimen and stick to it. In part one of this multi-part series, we will give you some tips on creating the perfect skin care routine to help you achieve the glowing skin that you always wanted.

Cleansing for Your Skin Type

The first step of your skin care routine is to know your skin type. It’s important to know and understand the needs of your skin type, otherwise, your skin care routine could actually be doing more harm than good and you could end up suffering from even more acne and breakouts.

If you’re unsure about what type of skin you have, check out our previous blogs where we give you a breakdown of each skin type. If you’re still unsure once you finish reading our previous posts, stop by Marie’s Beauty Salon & Supply! One of our friendly staff members would be more than happy to guide you in the right direction.

Clean

The first step in your skin care routine is to clean your face. While some are dedicated to cleaning their faces twice a day, others may settle for cleaning only once a day. The choice is up to you and what you think will be most beneficial for your skin. That being said, if you choose to clean your face at night, be sure that you remove all of your makeup before you wash your face.

Normal/Combo Skin

With normal or combination skin, you should wash your face with whatever cleanser works best for you. However, that doesn’t mean you should grab whatever bar of soap you have on hand. It may take a few tries before you find the right cleanser, but luckily, it isn’t necessary that you splurge on fancy and expensive cleansers. If you notice that your skin is more oily or that you’re breaking out, it may be a sign that you need to try a different cleanser.

Dry Skin

With dry skin, you have to be a little more careful with the types of cleansers that you buy. It’s best to avoid any cleansers that have alcohol or fragrances. The last thing you want is to dry your skin out more, and those ingredients will do just that. It’s also a good idea to use an exfoliating cleanser once a week. This will help to eliminate any dry skin flakes that may threaten to clog your pores. When you wash your skin, be sure that the temperature of the water is warm and not hot, as hot water will make your skin drier as well.

Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, be sure to look carefully to find a cleanser that is oil-free. Foaming cleansers work best on oily skin to cleanse and remove excess oil. In many cases, those with oily skin suffer from shiny faces. You may choose to apply a toner or an astringent after washing your face, as it will remove any extra oil and help to prevent shine.
