The Best Things You Can Do for Your Hair
Caring for your hair can seem like it’s a constant uphill battle, from trying new shampoos and conditioners to using products that help with frizz and volume. Some products may work, but others may make the problem even worse. Wash Your Hair the Right Way
You would think that washing your hair with shampoo would be pretty straight forward, but not everyone has the same shampooing routine. If you look on the back of your shampoo bottle, you may notice that it tells you to lather, rinse, and repeat, but is that really the best thing for your hair?
If you have extremely oily hair, then you may find that the rinse-and-repeat process gives you the best results. However, for most, the best process is to rinse your hair with water, use a quarter-sized amount of shampoo, rub the shampoo into your hair in a massaging motion, and rinse. If you have longer or thicker hair, then you may need to use more shampoo as needed.
Once you’ve rinsed the shampoo from your locks, the next step is to condition. Most people believe that when you condition your hair, it’s important to add conditioner to the roots, but that is not the case. Instead, add conditioner to the middle and ends of your strands, and give the conditioner a few minutes to sit so that it can really soak in. Finish the process by rinsing the conditioner and drying your hair by gently squeezing it into a towel. Rubbing your hair to eliminate moisture can cause breakage and frizz while also stripping away your gorgeous shine.
Don’t Wash Every Day
It’s important to be hygienic, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to wash your hair every day. Unfortunately, shampooing your hair on a daily basis can result in weak strands that break, and your hair may even become more oily than before. Instead, try to go two or three days without washing your hair or getting it wet. You can still wash your body in the shower, but try to protect your hair by wearing a shower cap or putting it up in a bun.
If you notice that your hair is starting to get oily, remember that dry shampoo is your best friend. Use dry shampoo on days where your hair needs a boost, and take advantage of styles that look better when your hair isn’t freshly washed.
